Drawing the Missing Link

Some people just have the best ideas. While I am not one of them (yet) I do have a knack for hunting the results of those ideas down, beating them in to submission and posting them on my blog.

This comes via etsy and its a brooklyn artist who does drawings based on craigslist "missed connection" postings. There is so much great material in there! The possibilities (and randomness) are endless.

For whatever reason in college a few years ago I became obsessed with reading craigslist entries. Missed connections, best of, rants and raves, I read it all.

Now the only thing I use it for is to half-heartedly look at job postings that suck and that I won't ever apply for 'cause 82 billion other people already have.

Don't You Just Wanna?

I just read this NY Times article on unemployment titled U.S. Job Seekers Exceed Openings by Record Ratio. That ratio is apparently 6:1. It doesn't sound that terrible but as someone reporting from the trenches, I can assure you, it's rough out there.

I'm going on three months now. Never really thought I could go on this long. The lack of prospects is driving me crazy.

Check here to see the unemployment rate of your state. Oregon is at a staggering 12.2 percent. The fifth highest in the nation. 

Excuse me. I think I just wet myself.

Objective Affection

I am pretty much obsessed with peacocks. I love their color scheme and their feathers make the best stylish cat toys around. Although only temporarily, as my cats tend to destroy them in mere seconds.

Made by Interactive Spaces, this chair uses technology sensors that automatically open the peacock feathers when someone sits down. I especially like that they used an antique-style chair and added that weird futuristic aspect to it. It wouldn't be near as cool or magically if they had made it entirely modern looking.  

The peacock chair is the first of a series of chairs that combines physical objects with art and technology.

This is what I want to be drinking tonight:

Cardamom Rose Cocktail:

Ingredients:
1.5 oz of Hendrick’s gin (this is a rose & cucumber infused gin)
.75 oz of Rose syrup (make at home with rose water and simple syrup or buy locally)
.25 oz of Fresh lemon juice
.75 oz of Fresh grapefruit juice (ruby red preferably)
2 dashes of Peychauds bitters (Peychaud is credited with first creating the cocktail)
1 Cardamom Pod
